It’s officially July, so approximately 80% of starlets are wearing little white dresses at any given moment.
ALESSANDRA AMBRÓSIO in São Paulo
dress and purse by Valentino
I suppose this is technically winter white, since Alessandra’s in the southern hemisphere, but whatever the weather, this is fucking fabulous. I am particularly in love with the pockets (as always) and the white accessories paired with black nail and toe polish. So chic.
NICOLA PELTZ in Berlin
bodysuit by Stella McCartney, skirt by Dolce & Gabbana
The new It Girl in town has been tearing shit up all over the world on her Transformers press tour. Somehow, she tacked a tablecloth onto a white swimsuit and made it look like fashion. The neckline is gorgeous, the cut-outs are perfect – I don’t even hate the nude pumps, and I always hate nude pumps. Keep ’em coming, honey.
NICOLA PELTZ in Berlin
gown by Stella McCartney
Almost too plain, but it’s the best kind of minimalism. The hemline falls at the exact right place, which shouldn’t be that big of a deal, but too many starlets always have pools of fabric around their feet. The waistline is absolutely extraordinary. This could have used a pair of statement earrings or maybe just a little more interesting of a hair ‘do, but it’s a strong, sharp look all the same.
KEIRA KNIGHTLEY in New York City
dress by Huishan Zhang, shoes by Prada
Keira Knightley is just a breath of fresh air this summer, with her light-as-a-feather sundresses, designer accessories, and hipster shades. I am buying everything this girl is selling.
KEIRA KNIGHTLEY in New York City
dress, purse, and shoes by Prada
SHE’S IMPOSSIBLY CUTE. Even this stupidly-shaped twee dress works on her. Also, her purse looks like candy and I want it.
KERRY WASHINGTON at the BET Awards
dress by Dolce & Gabbana, shoes by Casadei
Adorable. Sweet and chic, and I even like the white pumps, since last year’s Summer of the Ubiquitous White Pumps is in no danger of returning. (It’s been replaced by the Stuart Weitzman “Nudist” sandal, but we’ll get to that later.)
MICHELLE WILLIAMS at the BET Awards
gown by Olcay Gulsen, shoes by Saint Laurent
The detailing around the neck is very cool and pretty difficult to pull off, but Michelle wears it beautifully. I’m almost always complaining about gowns being too long, but this one is actually an inch or two too short. But the color is great, and the cut makes her look about eleven thousand feet tall, so I’m enjoying it.
LUCY LIU in New York City
dress by Antonio Berardi, purse by Bottega Veneta, shoes by Saint Laurent
I want all of her accessories. I don’t care if studs are so two years ago. You all can move on to some other trend, and Lucy and I will keep wearing them like the badass bitches we are.
OLIVIA PALERMO in New York City
dress by Heartloom, sunglasses by Westward Leaning, purse by Carolina Herrera
Yet another heavenly little white dress. And isn’t it refreshing to see Olivia in a normal amount of accessories? A taupe tote (fringed, of course, because that’s her thing), black-and-white snakeskin printed flats, a skinny white belt, and shades. For Olivia, that’s practically naked. But it looks so damn good.
ASHLEY MADEKWE in Los Angeles
dress by Cushnie et Ochs, shoes by Stuart Weitzman
Cute, but celebrities, remember that there are other shoes out there besides the Stuart Weitzman “Nudist” sandal that I mentioned earlier. I think they’ve been in every single fashion recap for the last two months. I get it, they work with everything, and there’s nothing wrong with them here. But I’ve been forgetting to point out how ubiquitous they are, so I just had to say something. Anyway, I’d like this dress more if it didn’t look like the hemline was tucked under and stapled to the inside of the dress.
CATHERINE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE in London
dress by Goat
Adorable/Predictable: The Duchess Kate Story.
KERI RUSSELL in Los Angeles
top and skirt by Monique Lhuillier
Surprisingly less awkward on her than you’d think. The cartoonish shape of the top shouldn’t work, but it kind of does. And the strappy shoes with the skirt make for a fun, flirty kind of ensemble.
LI BINGBING in Berlin
gown by Elie Saab
Better than most of her recent red carpet misadventures, but something about this just doesn’t really do it for me. And this time I’m putting my foot down on the nude pumps. Platforms in general tend to look ridiculous with long lace gowns, and these are no exception.
CHLOË MORETZ in Los Angeles
dress by Dolce & Gabbana
She’s wearing conjunctivitis eye makeup and a glorified Anthropologie apron. Let’s move on.
JAMIE CHUNG in Los Angeles
dress by Cushnie et Ochs, shoes by Stuart Weitzman
That neckline is very awkward. Also: the shoes. They’re everywhere, I’m telling you. Everywhere.
JANUARY JONES in Los Angeles
dress by Honor
Really? We’re wearing craftsy little bibs on the red carpet now? Ugh, I quit.
GABRIELLE UNION at the BET Awards
gown by Maria Lucia Hohan
Black suede thigh-high boots in Los Angeles in July? Why, Gabrielle? Why?
ZENDAYA COLEMAN at the BET Awards
jacket and skirt by Emanuel Ungaro
I use this gif every time Zendaya is on the red carpet, and I’m not going to stop until I understand what the fuck she’s wearing.
ASHANTI at the BET Awards
gown by Michael Costello, shoes by Tom Ford
It’s okay to look at yourself in the mirror and say, “My tits are too big for this dress.” That’s a good problem to have, Ashanti. This dress? This dress is a bad problem to have.
KEKE PALMER at the BET Awards
dress by Alon Livné, shoes by Saint Laurent
If you have to stand with your arms glued to your sides so that no one can see your vulva, you’re not doing fashion right.

Keke Palmer looks like she’s just realised she made a MASSIVE FUCKING MISTAKE and the dress she thought was fun at home is actually terrifying.
I once bought this shiny puffy-space-suit-fabric dress online and really did not understand how stupid it was until I wore it out. I mean, it didn’t show my ladyparts or anything, but I still feel Keke’s pain.
