Black Panther World Premiere

Let’s just say it: this was the most fashionable movie premiere of all time.

Best Dressed: LUPITA NYONG’O
gown by Atelier Versace, jewelry by Beladora, shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti

Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic

Why bother with words? What can the English language even say that Lupita isn’t already emanating out of each and every pore? What good are descriptions, when we are faced with fantastical royalty? But since I have taken up this battle, to cover to wonder that is fashion within the confines of the written word, may I just humbly say:

LUPITA HAS A FUCKING GOLD HARNESS, YOU GUYS. EVERYTHING IS AWESOME.

Runner-Up: DONALD GLOVER
suit by Dolce & Gabbana

From the Lando mustache (*swoon*) to the patterned shirt to the boldness of the color to the delectable shoes, this is goddamn perfect.

Honorable Mention: JANELLE MONAE
gown by Christian Siriano, purse by Heliópolis

I’ll quibble with the necklace, only because it distracts from the crown, and NOTHING should distract from a crown. But really, I’m spinning my wheels here. This is amazing, and would have gotten the top spot in any other post. The sheer number of stars who brought their absolute A-game to this premiere is astonishing.

CHADWICK BOSEMAN
jacket by Emporio Armani, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: Albert L. Ortega/Getty

Possibly the most beautiful jacket I’ve ever seen a man wear.

ANGELA BASSETT
jumpsuit by Naeem Khan, purse by Thalé Blanc

Photo: Neilson Barnard/Getty

A look made for the queen of Wakanda, if she happened to stop by Studio 54. I’m obsessed.

YARA SHAHIDI
gown by Etro, jewelry by Jennifer Fisher, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: Neilson Barnard/Getty

The epitome of effortless beauty. And by that I mean, she put in a fuckton of effort, and somehow makes it look easy.

DAVID OYELOWO
watch by Montblanc, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: David Crotty/Getty

David always looks like he’s having a blast on the red carpet, and it’s hard not to enjoy the lewks he serves. Every time I see him, I hope a little bit of his fashion risktaking will rub off on other men in Hollywood. (Though at this premiere, the majority of the men WENT FOR IT, because they’re wonderful.)

DANAI GURIRA
gown by Viktor & Rolf

Photo: Jon Kopaloff/Getty

This could be a tacky prom dress on somebody else, but Danai makes it look like art.

ISSA RAE
gown by Rosie Assoulin

Photo: tomandlorenzo.com

I can’t help but smile when I see Issa on the red carpet. Her joy is infectious, and her dress is adorable.

MARIJA ABNEY

Photo: tomandlorenzo.com

I was already a fan of this dress; then I saw the lining, and my jaw dropped. I’d lose the shoes, and probably the purse, but everything else is on point.

CHLOE BAILEY and HALLE BAILEY

Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic

They look a little over-styled – like the clothes are wearing them – but I can’t complain.

ANGEL PARKER
gown by Jovani

Photo: Jesse Grant/Getty

Fun and funky. Again, it’s only by nature of such an all-star red carpet that Angel didn’t make it higher on my list.

DANIEL KALUUYA
blazer by Burberry, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: tomandlorenzo.com

Daniel is working a traditional Ugandan kanzu and a Burberry blazer. What more could we even ask for? I’d go for a brighter color jacket, but that’s only because it clashes with the purple carpet.

TESSA THOMPSON
tunic and pants by Elie Saab, purse by Roger Vivier, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: David Crotty/Getty

Witchy, weird, and wonderful. Wish there were a pop of color somewhere.

LETITIA WRIGHT
gown by Bibhu Mohapatra

Photo: tomandlorenzo.com

It’s not as adventurous as the rest of what we’ve seen, but I’ll take it.

MARSAI MARTIN
dress by Maje

Photo: Jesse Grant/Getty

She’s thirteen, she’s adorable, and I hope she and Millie Bobbie Brown go shopping together.

MICHAEL B. JORDAN
suit by Calvin Klein, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: Neilson Barnard/Getty

Love the shoes, but why opt for a too-tight wealthy banker’s suit? The other men at this event proved that there’s a wide world of fashion available to dudes. Michael, get on board.

SYDELLE NOEL
gown by Marc Bouwer

Photo: Jesse Grant/Getty

It’s a bit literal, in that it looks like a superhero costume. The kind that you get at Party City.

OLIVIA HOLT
dress by Alice McCall, shoes by Pedro Garcia

Photo: Jim Smeal/Shutterstock

Pretty dress, dumb shoes.

AMBER RILEY
gown by C. Alexander

Photo: Jen Lowery/Silverhub/Shutterstock

I just want to pull it up an inch. Not to cover her up, but I just think the proportions would work so much better.

STERLING K. BROWN
suit by La Perla, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: tomandlorenzo.com

He looks like a Secret Service agent.

COBIE SMULDERS
dress by Markanian, purse and shoes by Jimmy Choo

Photo: tomandlorenzo.com

Well, she tried.

STORM REID

Photo: tomandlorenzo.com

This 14-year-old should join the Marsai Martin-Millie Bobbie Brown tween superstar shopping trip. A girl with a name like Storm deserves something way more dramatic than this.

EMILY V. GORDON and KUMAIL NANJIANI
suit by Etro

Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty

A little boring, but I do adore them.

NABIYAH BE
gown by Maria Lucia Hohan, choker by Tawapa, shoes by Alexandre Birman

Photo: Jesse Grant/Getty

The fit is off, the choker is weird, and Kate Hudson already wore it. Sorry, Nabiyah!

CHLOE BENNET
gown by Elisabetta Franchi, jewelry by Monica Vinader

Photo: Neilson Barnard/Getty

It’s not even that terrible, though I don’t like it. I’m just thanking the fashion gods for giving us this feast of a red carpet.
