Welcome back to your regular installment of pretty people wearing pretty things!
RACHEL MCADAMS in London
gown by Roksanda Ilincic, shoes by Casadei
Regina George is flawless. And if her new ginger hair isn’t insured for $10,000, it should be. Her gown is exquisite (though I think she’s wearing the wrong bra with it, or maybe it just needs a good steaming). It’s glam minimalism done right.
RACHEL MCADAMS in Munich
dress and shoes by Saint Laurent, cuff by Hermés
I probably wouldn’t like the dress on most people, but she’s selling the shit out of it, isn’t she? The eyes, the hand on her waist, and the popped knee say “I’m a motherfucking diva” in the best possible way. I definitely like some of the cut-outs and the chain around the neck, but I don’t like the random piece of fabric hanging off of her ass quite so much.
MILEY CYRUS in Los Angeles
dress by Proenza Schouler, purse by Chanel, shoes by Saint Laurent
Oh, lord, were that the Democracy Diva were 19 and rich and famous, this is the exact dress she’d be twerking on the red carpet. I also love the white purse, strap and all; the white shoes would probably bother me more if we weren’t currently in the midst of the Summer of the White Pump, an era ushered in partly by Miley herself. Girlfriend has rocked the white pump at least half a dozen events this summer, and she hasn’t made me bored of them yet. So that deserves some kind of medal.
LILY COLLINS in New York City
dress by Valentino, shoes by Jimmy Choo
Lily Collins – who I just found out this week is PHIL COLLINS’S DAUGHTER, BECAUSE LIFE IS RIDICULOUS – has catapulted to the top of my best dressed list recently. She’ll go from sexy crop tops and cut-outs to sweet romantic looks in the span of two days, and she looks at home in all of it. This might be one of the best little white dresses I’ve ever seen – the ever-so-slight V shape to the neckline, the long sleeves, the way the waistline falls, the soft pleating in the skirt, and of course, the delicate black lace on the bottom are all gorgeous details. And the matching lace shoes look simply beautiful.
CHLOË MORETZ in London
suit by Viktor & Rolf, shoes by Chanel
YES. Everyone needs to be wearing more outfits like this, on and off the red carpet. I don’t love the giant circles on the sides of the shoes, but that’s a pretty unreasonably specific complaint for an otherwise modern, cool look.
CHLOË MORETZ in London
jacket by McQ by Alexander McQueen, purse by Chanel
I might not be able to live without that jacket.
NICOLE RICHIE in New York City
dress by Antonio Berardi, shoes by Manolo Blahnik
The Summer of the White Pump continues! Also, this dress is all kinds of beautiful, and Nicole’s makeup looks better than ever.
NICOLE RICHIE in New York City
top by Mugler, pants by Balmain, shoes by Saint Laurent
The skirt is cool, though the sleeves are about a thousand inches too long on tiny little Ms. Richie. But the Michael Jackson shoes are absolutely to die for.
AMANDA SEYFRIED in Los Angeles
dress by Gucci, shoes by Givenchy
Amanda, you’re lovely, and you’ve been rocking plenty of cute dresses on your Lovelace press tour, but haven’t we talked about these shoes? There’s nothing wrong with them, but you can’t just wear them with EVERYTHING. You’re not a normal person; you’re a celebrity. Dress your feet accordingly.
AMANDA SEYFRIED in Las Vegas
top and shorts by Stella McCartney, shoes by Calvin Klein
I’m really not sure why celebrities still haven’t come around to my way of thinking about Stella McCartney, which is that almost everything she makes is either kind of terrible or completely boring. This is a little bit of both. And seriously, this girl has some sort of shoe-related depression. It’s become a problem.
MICHELLE DOCKERY in Los Angeles
jacket and shorts by Elie Saab, shoes by Jean-Michel Cazabat
It’s almost shocking to see Lady Mary’s legs, isn’t it? I happen to love this little shorts suit, but the makeup isn’t really doing her any favors.
DIANE KRUGER in Hollywood
dress by Mary Katrantzou, purse by Edie Parker, shoes by Stuart Weitzman
Remember when everything Diane Kruger wore was amazing, no matter how many red carpet events she attended? Where did that go? Because this bottle-blonde hair, heavy makeup, awkward dress, and boring accessories thing she’s going through right now is a major disappointment.
DIANE KRUGER in Hollywood
dress by Carven, shoes by Stuart Weitzman
This was my Resort 2014 red carpet prediction for Emma Stone, but I don’t quite love it on Diane. The shape and fit aren’t quite right for her, and the styling is a total let-down.
NINA DOBREV in Hollywood
dress by Julien Macdonald, purse and shoes by Elie Saab
A little less cut-outs and a little less sheen might have helped, but it’s a cute enough look, and the color is great.
NICOLE KIDMAN in Hollywood
dress by Narciso Rodriguez, shoes by Nicholas Kirkwood
Pretty enough, but a little on the boring side.
TAYLOR SCHILLING in Hollywood
dress by Roksanda Ilincic, purse by Edie Parker, shoes by Sophia Webster
This is my first time spotting Orange is the New Black‘s Piper on the red carpet, so I’ll take this time to say that if you haven’t already binge-watched the entire series twice and read the memoir it’s based on, DO IT NOW. Anyway, this perfectly draped salmon dress is awesome on her, particularly with her blonde hair and blue eyes, but the hot pink Barbie stripper shoes are positively ridiculous. For a red carpet newbie, that’s not so bad – she probably just needs a stylist, or a better one. There’s hope for this one yet.
OLIVIA WILDE in Hollywood
dress by Clover Canyon, purse and shoes by Jimmy Choo
News flash: you cannot make an ugly dress less ugly by adding an ugly purse and ugly shoes.
AMBER HEARD in Los Angeles
gown by Vionnet, shoes by Jimmy Choo
Aw, poor Amber. Did someone get stuck in her bedsheets AGAIN?
JENNIFER ANISTON in London
dress by Christian Dior, shoes by Casadei
It’s the first time she’s not wearing something black and incredibly boring in what feels like a hundred years, but since she’s also dressed like the world’s fanciest kindergartener, I can’t really give her much credit.
ZOSIA MAMET in New York City
top and pants by Calvin Klein
It just makes me so sad that Zosia Mamet has such terrible style when I love Shoshanna on Girls so damn much. She has literally never worn anything I’ve liked before, but those shoes are so much more horrible than I could have even imagined.
